Abstract
This report examines the long-term decline and mechanization of New Mexico's coal mining industry, documenting changes in production, employment, mine size, and regional concentration between 1917 and 1949. It also reviews statewide business conditions in late 1949, including retail trade, employment, banking activity, construction, and mining trends.
