Abstract

The province of Pánuco, also designated as Vitoria Garayana, had an important place in the annals of New Spain in the third and fourth decades of the sixteenth century. In later times, after the discovery and occupation of richer areas, the history of the Pánuco region had only minor significance in the evolution of colonial Mexico.
