Abstract
Old army forts and ghost mining towns present intriguing possibilities for research to the historian. When considering a thesis subject interest centered on those in New Mexico. While browsing through an 1880 newspaper file, the writer made a choice between old army forts and ghost mining towns. Ghost towns was decided upon. Research on all the deserted ghost towns in New Mexico was an impossibility. What area was most worthy of narrowed concentration?
