Abstract
The armies considered here, and the area in which they operated, have been selected as most nearly representative of the influence technology was beginning to have on war. This specialized Nineteenth Century effect was, of course, a harbinger of the day in which we live -- when technological application to warfare has reached the point of total human and industrial mobilization.
