Abstract
One of the best sources for the study of the life of the last century is the daily newspaper. The decade of the 'nineties was outstanding and has been the subject of much derision and admiration. A study of the "Las Vegas Daily Optic" may be enlightening in revealing something of the life in one of New Mexico's largest and most aggressive towns. The "Optic" was the leading English daily of the community. "La Voz del Pueblo", its only rival, was printed in Spanish.
