Abstract
The issue being examined in this work is the victim/perpetrator dichotomy as it exists in modern day Germany with regard to the depiction of the experience of Germans expelled from former German lands in eastern Europe. The issues surrounding this dichotomy involve transmission of history, national identity as well as memory and remembering of traumatic experiences. This work looks at how these issues are being handled and depicted in two documentaries, "Flucht und Vertreibung" (1981) and "Die grosse Flucht" (2001).
