Abstract
Manglar is a coming-of-age narrative that follows Lucía and her mother, Isabella, as they struggle to survive within a rigid religious doomsday cult. Set against the long shadow of El Salvador’s 1980s civil war, the story explores how violence, displacement, and forced migration reverberate across generations. Through Lucía’s evolving consciousness and Isabella’s haunted past, the novel examines the transmission of trauma, the search for autonomy, and the fragile bonds between mother and daughter.
