This discussion of the reader in Northanger Abbey consists of a "Prologue, 11 "Journal, 11 and "Epilogue. 11 The "Prologue II deals with the problems various critics have encountered while reading Northanger Abbey; the "Journal" records the complexities of an active, creative reading of the novel; the "Epilogue" reveals that an awareness of Northanger Abbey's structure can yield new insights into characters and situations.
