Abstract
This workbook contains several measurements of the outer diameter, inner diameter, and wall thicknesses of hollow fiber membranes. Measurements were taken of both 1212 and 1513 fibers; these two fiber types are named with respect to their fabrication conditions. The 1212 fibers were fabricated using 12% PVDF polymer powder, 12% ethylene glycol (EG), and 76% N-methyl-2-pyroliddinone (NMP), while the 1513 fibers were fabricated using 15% PVDF, 13% EG, and 72% NMP. The 1212 and 1513 fibers were extruded using a dual bore spinneret, and a 60% and 50% Isopropyl alcohol coagulation bath, respectively. The measurements were obtained using scanning electron microscope images and an image post-processing platform called webplot digitizer. Within the workbook, the measurements were compiled, averaged, and standard deviations were found. These measurements are paramount to membrane quality assurance in the fabrication process, and they are also useful in several calculations and further analytical analysis pertaining to these two types of hollow fiber membranes.
