Abstract
This workbook contains several membrane porosity values for both 1212 and 15113 membranes. The porosity values were calculated individually using separate, distinct membrane samples. The gravimetric method was used for calculating porosity. The 1212 membranes were fabricated using 12% PVDF polymer powder, 12% ethylene glycol (EG), and 76% N-methy-2pyrrolidinone (NMP); while the 1513 membranes were fabricated using 15% PVDF, 13% EG, and 72% NMP. High porosity is beneficial in membrane distillation because porosity is positively correlated with vapor transport. By measuring and controlling membrane porosity, we are able to fabricate membranes which are performance optimized.
