Abstract
In an era that is most accurately described by its scientific and technological progress, one major educational problem is preparing young people to cope with an intellectual and cultural environment characterized by rapid change. In order for students to understand this rapidly changing scientific and technological society, it is assumed these young people should have some basic understanding off the sciences. Since high schools generally allow students some latitude in course selections, it seems appropriate to investigate why students are beginning, more and more, to refrain from choosing the sciences.
