Abstract
Since there is evidence that the development of creative thinking lies at the core of achieving the most fundamental educational objectives, needed research should be undertaken to determine more concisely its relationship with different learning environments. The purpose of this study was to determine what difference in student creative behavior, if any, existed after two years of exposure in each of four different learning environments. An additional purpose was to determine whether student expressed attraction toward school is significantly related to the objectively quantified measures of creativity. Four elementary schools with similar populations were selected for sampling. Their different physical and conceptual designs were defined as being open concept, open space, conventional, and bilingual. Third grade from each school were tested with the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, Figural Form B. The Attraction Toward School Indicator was developed by the investigator and was administered to the same groups of students. Statistical analysis indicated a capacity of the open space school and, to a lesser degree, the bilingual school for producing superior feelings of attraction toward school. The data also pointed to the conclusion that the open concept school was the most effective in developing creativity. Creativity and attraction toward school were not found to be significantly related in the population under consideration.
