Abstract
Statement of the Problem
The purpose of the research was to explore the manner in which culturally related images of Anglo-Americans projected by television were related to stereotyped attitudes in MexicanAmerican children in the Southwest. Previous evidence indicated the more personal experience one has with a cultural group, the less one might tend to believe the stereotypes projected by the mass media of that cultural group. This study was an extension of previous studies which examined the relationship between these variables.
Procedures and Methods
A survey of a sample group of Mexican-American children was conducted using a questionnaire-interview method. Data were gathered on four groups of Mexican-American children distinguished by their varying personal experience and daily contact with Anglo-Americans. An exploratory data analysis was conducted, consisting of four levels of statistical analysis. They were (1) General Frequency Analysis, (2) Crosstabulation Analysis, (3) Multiple Classification for Linear effect (Regression Analysis), and (4) Multiple Classification Analysis.
