Abstract
This study explored, though qualitative feminist research methodology, what are the personal rites which mark the transition of women into the second stage of life. Six women, who lived in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, México, were the participants whose voices reflect the significance of their experiences, through in-depth interviews. The results revealed that, the rite of passage for women in the second half of life, consists of a series of experiences that equip them symbolic meaning. The rites are not living in a space of time, but are gestated slowly and sometimes seem to be going backwards. Menopause, with its implications understood biological, psychological and social, is the key event that marks the transition of women into the second half of life. The impact of the rites of transition is deep and lasting, in reshaping the identity of women.
