Abstract
Relaxation training methods have been demonstrated to be effective in treating a variety of ailments. However, which relaxation training method works effectively for a specific ailment remains problematic for research and clinical treatment. The literature reflects recommendations for further research into the application of relaxation methods in the treatment of patients with chronic pain related conditions. Autogenic relaxation training (ART) is one of the various methods of relaxation training that has been found to be effective in decreasing anxiety and increasing pain tolerance. This study investigated the effect of brief ART upon anxiety and pain tolerance among the population of hospital patients suffering from chronic bening low back pain.
