Abstract
The relationship of physique and personality has long challenged psychologists, physicians, and more recently, physical educators. Many studies, such as those by Sheldon, have attempted to determine correlations which might exist between a physique type and personality. However, it seems that a related area which is very important to the physical education profession has failed to receive sufficient investigation. Comparatively little research has been carried out to determine the relationship between an individual's state of physical fitness and his personality characteristics. Interest in this area leads to an even more intriguing question. Is an improvement in physical fitness accompanied by measurable changes in personality characteristics? There are many implications inherent in a research project which investigates this question.
