Abstract
The primary objective of this study is to examine the petroleum industry in the state of New Mexico and the importance of the industry to the economy of the state. A secondary objective is to determine the probable future developments of the petroleum industry in New Mexico. Considerable capital investment has resulted from the growth of the industry within one state. Continued growth will result in additional investment, and in an increased demand for the labor which is necessary in the future expansion and operation of the several phases of the petroleum industry. Furthermore, a growing industry such as the petroleum industry will bring about the growth of associated service industries which are directly dependent upon the petroleum industry for markets for their services and products.
