Abstract
One of the institutions extending widely among the Spanish-Americans in northern New Mexico in the past was a livestock leasing arrangement known locally as the partido system. While it has long been recognized as a legitimate business custom, in the past few years it has been severely criticized by certain public agencies which are active in behalf of the subsistence class of native people.
