Abstract
This thesis presents the utilization of a portable medical device intended to help in the diagnosis of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) knee injury. The prototype consists of an embedded system integrated with various sensors including accelerometers and gyroscopes to provide force, orientation, and acceleration measurement. The prototype has been used to quantify the results of a medical test called pivot shift which tests the dynamic stability of the patients knee. With the initial prototype built, limited clinical trials were conducted. Two schemes (metric based classification and k nearest neighbors) have been applied to the data set to empirically learn and judge ACL diagnosis.'
