Published in 1992 by Mladá fronta in Prague, this volume is the first edition of the Czech compilation featuring Dance Hall of the Dead and People of Darkness. Translated from Tony Hillerman’s English text by Šimon Pellar, the book features uncredited cover art depicting a birdlike figure meant to resemble a Zuni Shalako—the giant, bird-headed messenger spirit central to the sacred Zuni Pueblo winter ceremonies held each December.
