Description
Split coconut. The coconut was not new to Brazil when the African slaves arrived, but it was the Africans who made it an important part of cooking. Slaves also introduced or emphasized the use of okra, dried shrimp, inhame (yam), peanuts, ginger and banana. They made modifications such as substituting dende oil for olive oil in many Portuguese dishes.Coco partido. O coco não era algo novo no Brasil quando os escravos africanos chegaram, mas foram eles que fizeram do coco uma parte importante da cozinha. Os escravos também introduziram ou enfatizaram o uso de quiabo, camarões secos, inhame, amendoim, gengibre e banana. Eles fizeram modificações tais como substituir o óleo de oliva por óleo de dendê em muitos pratos portugueses.
