Description
Baiana (literally a woman from Bahia) and her foodstand. The Baiana is one of the most picturesque and traditional figures in Brazilian culture. Her costume is a version of slave dress, especially that of the Reconcavo region. Even in colonial days large number of negro or mulatto Baiana women in traditional dress sold a variety of Afro-Brazilian dishes in the street. Today Baianas can be seen at street corners or on beaches nationwide with their portable wooden foodstands selling similar dishes, though they are especially associated with the city of Salvador.Uma baiana e sua barraca de comida. A baiana é uma das muitas figuras pitorescas e tradicionais da cultura brasileira. Seu traje é uma versão de um vestido de escrava, especialmente das da região do Recóncavo. Mesmo nos dias coloniais, grande número de baianas mulatas e negras, vestidas em seus trajes tradicionais, vendiam uma variedade de pratos afro-brasileiros nas ruas. Hoje as baianas podem ser vistasnas esquinas ou nas praias do país inteiro, com suas barracas portáteis de comida, feitas de madeira, vendendo pratos semelhantes, embora elas sejam especialmente associadas à cidade de Salvador.
