Description
Church of Senhor do Bonfim (Our Lord of the Good End) located on a hill on the Itapagipe peninsula. Built in 1754, it is visited by the faithful for divine favors and cures. The Senhor do Bonfim represents the highest deity in both the Catholic Church (where he represents Jesus Christ) and the Afro-Brazilian cults or Candombles (where he represents Oxala, the universal father). During the feast day of Born Jesus in January, pilgrims come to the church from all parts of the country.Igreja do Senhor do Bonfim localizada sobre um monte na península de Itapagipe. Construída em 1754, ela é visitada por fiéis para a obtenção de curas e favores divinos. O Senhor do Bonfim representa a mais alta divindade tanto na igreja Católica (onde representa Jesus Cristo) quanto nos cultos afro-brasileiros ou Candomblés (onde representa Oxalá, o pai universal). Durante a festa do Senhor do Bonfim em janeiro, peregrinos vem à igreja de todas as partes do país.
