54) Leblon beach and the Corcovado peak in the background. The first 2.2 kms south from Copacabana until the canal that connects the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to the ocean is referred to as Ipanema. From there begins Leblon until the Niemayer Avenue. The Leblon and Ipanema beaches are usually preferred by the younger beachgoers and surfers. These districts are also popular shopping and leisure areas.54) Praia do Leblon com Corcovado ao fundo. Os 2,2 primeiros quilmetros ao sul de Copacabana, até o canal que liga a Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas ao oceano Atlântico formam a praia de Ipanema. A partir daí começa o Leblon, até a avenida Niemayer. As praias de Ipanema e Leblon são normalmente preferidas pelos surfistas e frequentadores mais jovens. Estes bairros tambem são muito procurados para lazer e compras.
