Description
79. Livro da criação: unidade de sistema planetário (Book of Creation: Planetary System Unit), Lygia Pape. ln response to the Concrete movement in São Paulo, a group of artists in Rio de Janeiro formed a Neoconcrete movement in the late Fifties. Unlike the industrial and rationale art of the Concretistas, they embraced an intuitive and organic art that sought to engage the viewer, like this three-dimensional kinetic sculpture of Lygia Pape. Neoconcrete art was an inspiration to the Tropicália movement that developed in the late Sixties, which celebrated specifically Brazilian themes and materials.
