40. Operários (Workers), 1933. The Modernism of the Twenties underwent a sudden and radical transformation with the economic Depression and political events of the 1930s. Tarsila began to paint political subjects in a style related to the Social Realism of the time, although the Cubist forms of the factory stacks and buildings behind the mass of individualized and varied faces recalls her works of the Twenties.
