Description
24. Roupa estendida (Hanging Clothes), 1943. Eliseu Visconti is the best-known of the Brazilian painters whose work is associated with Impressionism. The painting can be related to Impressionism only through its outdoor subject, treatment of light and open brushwork. Its late date is evidence of the situation of art instruction in Brazil in the early years of this century. The styles that radicalized European art thirty years earlier only began to gain acceptance in the Brazilian Academy after 1916.
