Description
The campos are the homeland of the gaúcho. Their resistance to imposed authority made gaúchos the notorious for their independent behavior. Today cattle hands and ranchers in Rio Grande do Sul still wear the traditional gaúcho outfit: poncho, black hat, bombachas (knickerbocker britches), red or white handkerchief around the neck, spurs, and belt with with dagger. Other gaúcho traditions include the chimarrão (hot water poured into a cuia or gourd filled with erva-mate and sipped through a bomba or hollow metal stern) and churrasco (beef seasoned only with salt and grilled over a charcoal fire).Os campos são a terra natal do gaúcho.
