View of one of the many beaches in central Santa Catarina. lo the back lurk several mountains of the Serra Geral. Located south of the Tropic of Capricorn the topology of this region is characterized by a series of plateaus that incline slightly towards the west and are part of the Southern Brazilian Highlands. The most striking elevations are part of the Serra Geral which begins in northeastern Rio Grande do Sul and extends in an S shape through the other states into central south São Paulo.Vista de uma das muitas praias no centro de Santa Catarina. Ao fundo, delineiam-se as montanhas da Serra Geral. Localizada ao sul do Trópico de Capricórnio, a topologia desta região é caracterizada por uma série de planaltos ligeiramente inclinados para o oeste e que formam o Planalto Meridional. As mais notáveis elevações fazem parte da Serra Geral que começa no nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul e se estende em forma de S através dos outros estados até o cetro-sul do estado de São Paulo.
