Description
Two boys carrying groceries for a small fee at a São Paulo market. Brazil is a young nation and around 37% (1985) of its population is under the age of 15. The number of children attending primary school has been steadily increasing, yet for many children, especially those from economically depressed areas, formal education is still a luxury. Illiteracy has been decreasing in recent years, yet 34% (1987) of the population still cannot read.Dois meninos carregando comidas num mercado em São Paulo por uma pequena remuneração. O Brasil é uma nação jovem e cerca de 37% (1985) de sua população está abaixo de 15 anos. O número de crianças que vai à escola primária tem crescido consistentemente, mas a educação formal é ainda um luxo especialmente entre aquelas das áreas economicamente desfavorecidas. O analfabetismo tem decaído nos últimos anos, mas 34% (1987) da população ainda não sabe ler.
