Description

Wooden house on stilts along the Tocantins river in the state of Pará. Houses along the river are built on stilts to avoid the regular flooding that occurs. The North is the largest region of Brazil (42% of the national territory), yet it is very sparsely populated (6% of the total population). The equatorial forest, the unpleasant tropical environment, and the limited exploitable economic resources have restricted, until recently, extensive settlement of this area.Casas de madeira de palafitas ao longo do rio Tocantins no estado do Pará.
