38) The church of São Francisco stands just a few hundred meters east of the Tiradentes square. After the prophets at Congonhas do Campo, this is Aleijadinho's single most important masterpiece. The ceiling paintings are by colonial master Manuel da Costa Ataíde.38) A Igreja de São Francisco situa-se a poucas centenas de metros a oest e da praça Tiradentes. Depois dos profetas em Congonhas do Campo, esta é a mais importante obra de arte de Aleijadinho. As pinturas no teto foram feitas pelo mestre colonial Manuel da Costa Ataíde.
