The São Francisco river becomes narrow and passes through a rocky valley near Paulo Afonso (BA). One of the earliest hydroelectric projects in Brazil was built in this area of the sertão.O Rio São Francisco se torna estreito e passa por um vale rochoso perto de Paulo Afonso (BA).
