Description
"Baianas" (literally a woman from Bahia) in white dress in front of the nuns in the procession in Cachoeira (BA). In the colonial days, the "baiana" dress was a version of slave dress. Today, a similar style of dress is used by the female members of the candombles. Street vendors selling typical dishes from Bahia also wear the costume."Baianas" em vestido branco caminhando em frente às irmãs numa procissão em Cachoeira (BA). Na época colonial o vestido da "baiana" era uma versão do vestido usado por escravas. Hoje, um estilo semelhante de vestido é usado pelo membros femininos dos candomblés. Vendedoras de comidas típicas nas ruas da Bahia também usam estes vestidos.
