Despite the lack of interest of a more secular Brazilian society, the Catholic Church remains a strong and outspoken advocate of human rights and has strong lay organizations to assist it to promote numerous social services.Uma concorrida procissão alargando-se por Ouro Preto no fim-de-semana da Páscoa. Apesar da falta de interesse da sociedade brasileira agora mais secularizada, a Igreja Católica continua a ser um sólido e direto defensor dos direitos humanos, mantendo fortes organizações leigas para assisti-la na promoção de numerosos serviços sociais.
