Description
Statement made by Kubitschek in late 1956 predicting that from the vast empty central plateau, decisions of the highest politicaI leveI would be made and that he had great faith in the destiny of the nation. The area chosen for the Federal District and the construction of the future capital was near Planaltina (Goiás). It is in the middle of the Central-West region dominated by the cerrado (or savanna), a region of stunted vegetation characterized by scattered short trees, bushes and grasslands. Kubitschek expected that by attracting settlers he could integrate this region with the more developed coastal areas.Declaração feita por Kubitschek ao final de 1956, predizendo que do vasto plató da área central decisões do mais alto nível político seriam tomadas, testando sua fé no destino da nação. A área escolhida para o Distrito Federal e a construção da futura capital era perto de planaltina (Goiás) . Encontra-se no meio da Região Centro-Oeste, numa região dominada pelo cerrado (ou savana) , uma região de raquítica vegetação, caracterizada por árvores pequenas e escassas, arbustos e pastagens. Kubitshek esperava que, atraindo colonizadores, ele poderia integrar esta região às regiões mais avançadas ao longo da costa.
