Description
Many houses contain almost no furniture; furnishings include a mud brick stove, some pots and manioc fIour (such as here in the thatched bag). A typical diet includes beans, rice, manioc and an occasional piece of meat or fish. With a diet chronically short of proteins and vitamins, sertanejos (those that live in the sertão) suffer various forms of malnutrition, especially during drought periods.
