A vaqueiro. The labor force on the ranches during the colonial period in the sertão were primari1y mixed bloods. The relative social freedom in the hinterland was especially appealing to those whose social position would otherwise be marginal. Both cattle and men are a hardy lot, able to adapt to this harsh environrnent.Um vaqueiro. A força de trabalho nas fazendas durante o período colonial no sertão foi principalmente de mistura étnica. A relativa liberdade social no interior era especialmente atraente àqueles cuja posição social seria marginal em outros lugares. Tanto o gado como as pessoas são duros, capazes de se adaptarem a este ambiente natural áspero.
