A mansion built during the rubber boom in Belém (PA). By 1910, rubber exports were 39% ofthe national total. Belém, for example grew trom a city of 40,000 in 1875 to 100,000 in 1900. Such modem conveniences as telephones, electricity and streetcars were available and the local elite built numerous elegant mansions rivaling those existing in Europe.Uma mansão .construída durante o surto da borracha em Belém (PA). Por volta de 1910, a exportação da borracha constituía 39% do total nacional. Belém teve sua população crescida de 40.000 habitantes em 1875 a 100.000 em 1900. Comodidades modernas como telefone, eletricidade e bondes existiram na época e a elite local construiu numerosas mansões cuja elegância competia com as existentes na Europa.
