Abstract
This report traces the development of commercial banking in New Mexico from the territorial period through the postwar era, examining the relationship between banking growth and the state's agricultural, mining, and economic development. The report analyzes bank formation, failures, branch banking, regulatory changes, and the effects of major events including statehood, World Wars I and II, and the Great Depression.
