Abstract

The report evaluates the long-term relationship between water demand and water availability in the Albuquerque metropolitan region and surrounding portions of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia, and Socorro Counties. Prepared by Gilbert Bonem, Micha Gisser, John Myers, and Mark Resta of the University of New Mexico Bureau of Business and Economic Research, with a water-supply assessment by Lee Wilson, the report was conducted as part of the Albuquerque Greater Urban Area (AGUA) planning program. Using economic-demographic forecasting models, sector-specific water-use coefficients, hydrologic analysis, and water-rights evaluations, the study projects water demand and supply conditions through the year 2030.
