Abstract
It is the purpose of this paper to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of several widely-used painting media; to survey briefly the history of their use; and to describe a method in which a combination of the oil medium with elements of other media might offer the painter a chance to eliminate the disadvantages of oil painting without sacrificing its obvious benefits.
