Background Information:
These recordings are part of the Center for Southwest Research Anselmo Arellano collection. The recordings conducted mostly by Anselmo Arellano were of regional events that Arellano was closely associated with. The first ten recordings in particular were of the work by Arsenio Cordova and the many performance events of Los Pastores by his Taos group Sangre de Cristo Liturgies. Also included are interviews and collected video documentaries related to Los Pastores or La Pastorela.
This series also includes other recordings related to the culture (music, art, agriculture, medicinal traditions, etc.) of New Mexico. Arellano's intentions were to document and transfer community traditions and artistic expressions for educational purposes. Most of the recordings were part of Arellano's research on the history/culture of New Mexico.
