Abstract
Echo-reactions are imitative behavior involving the automatic, involuntary repetition of words or sounds heard (echolalia), or of actions or movements seen (echopraxia). Echo-reactions have been reported as symptoms of several forms of mental disorders and pathological conditions in contemporary Europe and the United States, but they are very rare. However, automatic, imitative behavior has been reported to occur frequently as a manifestation of arctic hysteria and latah, two mental disorders of non-literate societies.
