In this presentation, Dr. K. Joseph Ho from the University of New Mexico introduces the Expanded Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (ECURE) framework and explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and Open Educational Resources (OER) into undergraduate research education. The presentation highlights ECURE’s progressive approach to developing research skills through active learning, collaboration, ethical awareness, and authentic research experiences. It examines how AI can support personalized learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and student self-efficacy through guided instruction and feedback. Examples from general chemistry laboratory courses demonstrate the practical implementation of ECURE-based OER materials, alongside student learning outcomes and assessment data. The presentation emphasizes the potential of AI-assisted ECURE to expand access to meaningful undergraduate research experiences and strengthen student engagement and learning across disciplines.
