Abstract
This study comprises an attempt (1) to show Wallace's relationship to the literary trends of the years during which he lived; (2) to demonstrate his use of native Indian folk material in a work of creative imagination; (3) to survey Lew Wallace's writings for the purpose of relating his minor works to his masterpiece, Ben Hur.
