Abstract

This report evaluates the economic, demographic, and fiscal impacts of a proposed $210 million NuChik, Inc. poultry processing facility on the City of Artesia and its public schools. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the analysis highlights that while the plant will inject 3,542 total direct and secondary jobs into the region, it will simultaneously induce a notable population growth and subsequent general fund deficit for the city, alongside an estimated influx of up to 984 new students that will heavily burden local school capital infrastructure.
