Abstract
The study evaluates the relative economic merits of two proposed landfill locations for the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County area: the Cerro Colorado site west of Albuquerque and the Tri-Sect site in Valencia County. Prepared by Anna Weniger Lamberson of the University of New Mexico Bureau of Business and Economic Research under contract with Bernalillo County, the study compares the long-term costs associated with transportation, road construction, land acquisition, utility extensions, groundwater monitoring, closure requirements, and landfill liner systems. The analysis standardizes assumptions regarding landfill capacity, operating life, and waste volumes to permit direct comparison of the two sites.
