Abstract
Groundwater supplies are increasingly threatened by organic, inorganic and radioactive contaminants introduced to the environment by improper disposal or accidental release. WISMUT, a German government owned company conducted in situ acid leach mining for decades to extract uranium from a mine at Konigstein. The uranium mine is currently undergoing remediation. The first objective of this research is to determine whether dissolved U(VI) can be precipitated via microbially mediated reduction to its insoluble form.
