Abstract
This study was designed to determine social class differences between varsity athletes participating in eight sports at six colleges or universities. The schools were: University of Arizona, Eastern Washington State College, Sacramento State College, Temple University, Trinity University, and the University of New Mexico. The sample used in the study was returning lettermen in eight sports. All respondents had won a college or university varsity letter in one or more of the following sports: baseball, basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, tennis, track, and wrestling. Social class was measured by the Warner Revised Index Status Characteristics Scale. Two hundred seventy questionnaires were usable for analysis. A total of three hundred twenty were collected.
